As a foundry company,PHENITEC specializes in manufacturing semiconductor
chips.
In the semiconductor industry, it used to be a common practice for large
companies to produce and
supply products entirely independently, including design, chip production
(front-end process), packaging
(back-end process),and sales. Today, it is becoming increasingly common
for semiconductor
production to be shared by multiple companies.
Chipmaking is extremely costly in terms of facilities and control systems.
Chipmakers are generally
placed in a situation where their running costs are almost constant irrespective
of the rate of operation of
facilities. Even when the economy slows down, they are placed under an
extremely difficult financial
environment. When the economy is booming, they are hesitant to invest in new facilities unless they
are certain of the future revenue. As a result, they sometimes are unable to satisfy an increasing
demand promptly.
Because the development and manufacture of semiconductor chips involves
a great amount of cost,
there is a new trend towards "fabless" companies, who specialize
in design and sales and do not have
their own manufacturing facilities. The emergence of such companies has
a positive impact on foundry
companies like us.
Under such a business environment, PHENITEC is expanding its foundry business
efficiently, through
tie-ups with companies in and outside Japan, producing a wide range of
products from discrete
semiconductors to various ICs.
PHENITEC's chip manufacture facilities include 4", 5" and 6"
lines, of which the 6" line started mass
production in fiscal 2002. We handle the entire process internally, from
epitaxial growth to testing and
probing, satisfying customer needs using highly experienced human resources
and expertise.
We are a foundry specialist company that takes pride in stability and high
productivity as its greatest
advantages, making continued efforts to reduce cost, shorten lead time and
improve product quality
under the motto of continual improvement.

We established a wafer foundry business leading the industry, and have
been following our own path.
As a chipmaker, we place a greater emphasis on satisfying customers by
providing comprehensive
foundry services, making the utmost use of expertise in product design,
process technologies and
manufacture, thus simultaneously realizing low cost and higt quality while
minimizing investment, rather
than pursuing ever-advancing microfabrication by investing massively in
the development of processes
and devices. Based on this policy, we intend to be a supplier of continuously
comprehensive foundry
services, paying close attention to next-generation requirements.
We supply a wide variety of products, including Bipolar Transistors, Diodes,
and ICs from our 4" wafer
fabrication facilities, and Bipolar ICs, CMOS Logic ICs, Power MOSFETs
and Power-management
Analog CMOS ICs from our 5" and 6" wafer process lines.
The current minimum design rule that we can handle on a mass-production
base is 0.8ƒÊm.
On a prototype base, we have almost established 0.6ƒÊm process technologies.
We are working
towards becoming able to handle 0.35ƒÊm.

"Customer satisfaction" accurately describes the essence of our
service. As a company supplying
semiconductor wafers and chips, we are fully aware that it is essential
to provide such products that
meet our customer's needs and also contribute to our customer's growth.
In this context, our working
environment has to be bolstered by a robust quality management system to
accept customer needs in a
flexible manner. Several quality systems, including ISO/TS16949, have been
certified and are being
maintained, which allows us to remain an enterprise which is trusted by
both our clients and society. It
further allows us to maintain a reciprocal relationship with our suppliers
which is also to the benefit of our
customers.

As an ISO/TS16949 certified global supplier,
we make consistent efforts for quality improvement.
